Helping Betsy make the right choice (2)

As well as management, I have another tool at my disposal to help ensure Betsy makes the right choice.

My previous post explains that I am currently working on door dashing with Betsy. She has actually never dashed a door where I currently live, however I am in the process of boundary training her to not reach the end of our drive, even with high level distractions (e.g. cat!). Currently doors get shut and locked, however I want to be able to proof her if she gets out by accident.

Although I have done boundary training at previous properties, dogs often do not generalise well (talk more about this later!) so it is something I am currently working on.

To do this, like everything else I have taught her, I am going to use a combination of management (long line to ensure she cannot make the choice to step into the road) and clicker training.

If she chooses to go near the door, she will get a good consequence. If she walks away from the door, she will not get paid. If she chooses to go inside…I will jackpot her…

What is a jackpot- find out soon!
