Competing with other dogs bums (Reinforcement #2)

Right. As I have said before, Betsy is not a robot. I’m not the perfect trainer, however I will share what I have learnt about competing with other dogs bums, to put it frankly…

To do this, I had to learn how to make listening to me worth doing over what Betsy loves most, whether that is sniffing that handsome German shepherds bum, nicking that other dogs tennis ball, doing zoomies in various locations and many more to list…

Again, I haven’t completely 100% cracked it, but I would say we are getting there…so I am going to share what I have learned in the process…

When I got Betsy, I decided to that I was going to train her completely force free.

What is Force Free and why do you train that way? (OK, apologies for the essay!)

Force Free = Nothing that will scare or hurt Betsy. This means when I train her, I don’t do any of the following:

  • Physically hurt her (use choke chains, half choke chains, electric shock collars, squirt lemon juice in her eyes, alpha roll, kick and hit)
  • Scare her (Use water or pressurised air sprays, yell, make scary noise’s)

Which leads me on to my next post…
